Project Brief
For this project, we were to explore and experiment with creating six illustrations, each executed in a different contemporary style: Flat Illustration, Granules and Gradients, Liquid Neon, Graphic Novel, Painterly Realism, and Photo + Illustration Combined. The goal was to connect all the illustrations through a consistent theme and shared motifs, developing a series of postcards as a self-promotional media element.

Concept and Development
I decided to work with the theme of nostalgia and memories from when I was younger, and titled the collection “Heimwee”, Afrikaans for homesickness or a strong longing for home. Each of the illustrations captured a special memory that stirs a longing for family and different times. The process to illustrate these very differently stylised images required a lot of research and testing on techniques and processes to replicate them successfully. The illustrations were then laid out onto A5 size postcards, with descriptions on the back and contact information, to send out to prospective clients and showcase my illustration skills and abilities, under my pseudonym “Kunskoppie” (artistic mind / head filled with art).
