Blaas Hom

Description (View/Hide)
"Blaas Hom" is a lyric music video I created with the intent of capturing the aggressive, visceral expression for the band, Battery 9. I used photobashing and digital painting to imitate cardboard dolls on a conveyor belt, which feeds into the song's industrial sound and demonstrates how each prop feels expendable. I chose a harsh, dark and sickening colour pallet with deep blues and drunken yellows to contrast the sadistic shade of red that will bleed over the last 30 seconds of the video and maintain this emotionally-driven dystopian grunge, and blended beast and machine with brash, loud typography. The concept aimed to challenge justice versus survival through framing people as animals driven by instinct when pushed beyond their breaking points; and put to the test how, regardless of whether you speak Afrikaans or not, you would understand the emotional intensity, violence, and desperation from both of the characters in the situation.
