Wonders van die Heelal ("Wonders of the Universe")

Description (View/Hide)
Wonders van die Heelal ("Wonders of the Universe") is an editorial illustration project that translates dense scientific content, spanning immunology, climatology, and geology, into easily accessible educational material using illustrative metaphors.
Each spread explores the central idea of the text using a friendly, fun illustrative approach that personifies the concepts being explored and creating a drama between characters.

Why Ice Ages Happen depicts a personified Earth caught in a tug-of-war between the sun and moon, a playful showcase of the gravitational forces that causes earths cooling.

Why Dinosaurs Became So Large emphasises size as a defence against predators, characterised by a baby sauropod taunting a predator from the safety of a giant adult foot.

What Drives Plate Tectonics portrays the restless, volatile nature of the earth's crust, showing a rock monster that resembles famou comic book superhero the Thing wrestling with the earth to create mountains.

Text and illustration were translated into Afrikaans, extending the project's reach as a science communication piece for Afrikaans-speaking readers, and demonstrating fluency in adapting technical, research-driven writing into a tone suited to a general audience.
