Motherland Coffe is a coffee packaging project rooted in a striking, folk-art-inspired visual identity that celebrates African origin and craft. Built around the tagline "Quality Coffee, African Origin" and the warm, resonant slogan "Drink the Love," the brand identity translates the ritual of coffee-drinking into a visual language of heritage, community, and care.
At the centre of the concept is a recurring figurative motif: a stylised African figure rendered in bold red, black, and cream, balancing a traditional coffee pot as if it were a treasured object of daily ritual. This icon anchors the packaging system, appearing consistently across both the cream and mustard-yellow cup variants, tying product to story at every touchpoint.
Supporting the brand's sustainability message, "EEN TREE OP 'N SLAG" ("One Tree at a Time") is developed as a standalone campaign identity, communicating the brand's commitment to environmental responsibility and fair, ethical sourcing. This message is reinforced by a broader illustrated icon set; a linocut-style visual library of African rural life, including a windmill, acacia tree, grazing goat, traditional homestead, a woman carrying water, and farming tools, which extends the brand's visual world beyond the cup itself into posters, packaging, and supporting collateral.
Throughout, the design maintains a disciplined, unified colour palette and a bold, textured, linocut-inspired illustration style that feels handcrafted rather than corporate, reinforcing the brand's African-origin storytelling and its emphasis on authenticity, sustainability, and tradition over mass-produced polish.
