BABA YAGA (A Fearsome Witch)

Baba Yaga is an illustrated picture-book interpretation of the classic Slavic folktale, reimagined through a dark, atmospheric visual language. The adaptation follows Vasilisa into the forest and toward the mysterious witch’s house, using stark monochrome imagery, layered textures and expressive character drawing to heighten the story’s tension and sense of unease. The restrained palette and dramatic contrasts create a world that feels both folkloric and unsettling, allowing the strangeness of the original tale to remain central. The result is a visually distinctive retelling that explores fear, courage and the unknown while preserving the eerie, mythic quality that has made Baba Yaga such an enduring figure in folklore.
