Poppe met Visie

Description (View/Hide)
'Poppe met Visie' is a celebration of representation, ambition and the power of seeing yourself reflected in the world around you. This editorial zine explores how iconic dolls have evolved beyond toys to become cultural symbols that challenge stereotypes, expand possibilities and empower young girls to imagine who they can become.
From Barbie’s astronaut, doctor and pilot personas to Sasha from Bratz, who challenged narrow ideals of beauty and celebrated Black identity, and Joss, an American Girl doll who proudly wears a hearing aid while pursuing her passions as a surfer and cheerleader, each character represents a different way of breaking the mould.
The zine combines research, storytelling and illustration to trace the stories behind these influential characters and the women who created them. It explores how a simple toy can communicate powerful ideas about identity, ambition, diversity and belonging.
At its heart, 'Poppe met Visie' asks a simple question: What happens when a child sees a version of herself capable of anything? Through bold visual storytelling and playful editorial design, the project celebrates dolls not simply as objects of childhood, but as mirrors of possibility, reminding every girl that her differences, ambitions and dreams deserve to be seen.
